‘Mortal Kombat 2’ Hitting Theaters and IMAX on October 24, 2025
According to Deadline, Warner Bros. has finally revealed the theatrical release date for the highly anticipated ‘Mortal Kombat 2.’ Based on the best-selling video game series of the same name, the sequel to the 2021 reboot will hit theaters on October 24, 2025, and will be available on IMAX.
The upcoming movie will see the return of Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Mehcad Brooks, and Chin Han, reprising their roles from the previous film. Meanwhile, newcomers Karl Urban, Tati Gabrielle, and Adeline Rudolph will also join the cast, adding depth to fan-favorite characters.

What to Expect from the ‘Mortal Kombat’ Sequel?
While plot details for ‘Mortal Kombat 2’ remain under wraps, the addition of Karl Urban as the legacy character Johnny Cage has fueled speculation that the movie could potentially focus on him and his conflict with Cole Young, played by Lewis Tan. Additionally, there is a good chance the sequel will finally feature the actual Mortal Kombat fighting tournament, which was missing from the first movie.
The late October release date avoids the blockbuster-heavy summer slate and gives the movie an unimpeded run that could help prop up its box office potential. This decision also allows the sequel to secure the date, as many major movies slowly get their releases following the SAG-AFTRA strike that paused many productions last year.

The original ‘Mortal Kombat’ movie was a modest box office success, grossing $84 million worldwide against a production budget of $55 million. With the recent rise in successful video game adaptations like ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie,’ ‘Sonic the Hedgehog,’ and ‘The Last of Us,‘ the chances of ‘Mortal Kombat 2’ exceeding its predecessor’s success look promising.
‘Mortal Kombat 2’ will be released in theaters and IMAX on October 24, 2025.
