Kate Winslet, the acclaimed actress known for her roles in films like Titanic and The Reader, has expressed her disapproval towards the use of the weight-loss drug Ozempic. Her comments shed light on the ongoing conversation surrounding body image and the societal pressures faced by women in the entertainment industry.
Kate Winslet’s Candid Criticism of Ozempic
According to Daily Mail, in an interview with The New York Times Magazine, Winslet shared her unfiltered views on Ozempic, a medication initially developed to treat type 2 diabetes but increasingly used as a weight-loss aid. Upon learning about the drug’s popularity, the actress responded with shock, stating,
“Oh, my God. This sounds terrible. Let’s eat some more things!” before playfully taking a bite of her pastry.
Winslet’s disdain for Ozempic stems from her own experiences with weight scrutiny and body-shaming.
As she explained, “I never told anyone about it. Because guess what — people in the world around you go: ‘Hey, you look great! You lost weight!’ So even the compliment about looking good is connected to weight. And that is one thing I will not let people talk about. If they do, I pull them up straight away.”
Winslet acknowledged that the industry has undergone a positive shift in recent years, with young actresses finding their voices and standing up against fat-shaming. In an appearance on The Today Show, she expressed her delight in witnessing this change, stating,
“It’s really interesting how much it has changed. And I think about the moments I did have to kind of say, ‘Well look, I’m going to be myself. And I have curves. And this is who I am.'”
“It’s an exciting time, I think, for younger actresses to be coming into an industry like this one, which is huge. But to feel held, supported, nurtured, it’s changed so much. It’s wonderful,” Winslet added.

Kate Winslet Addressed Past Body-Shaming Experiences
The actress has been open about the harsh criticism she faced early in her career, recalling instances where she was told she would be cast in “fat girl” roles while still a student.
“It can be extremely negative. People are subject to scrutiny that is more than a young, vulnerable person can cope with,” she told The Sunday Times.
