Rise of the Ronin, the highly anticipated action RPG from acclaimed developers Koei Tecmo Games and Team Ninja, finally has a release date for PlayStation 5 owners to mark on their calendars. The ambitious open-world samurai adventure launches on March 22, 2024.
Rise of the Ronin: An Epic Samurai Journey
According to PlayStation, In Rise of the Ronin, players take on the role of a nameless Ronin – a masterless samurai warrior forging their own path during the chaotic Bakumatsu period of 1860s Japan. As the Tokugawa shogunate’s reign ends and the nation is torn apart by war, disease and Western influence, your choices will shape the course of history.
“We want players to fully experience the feeling of wanting to make Japan a better place (in the face of political turmoil) and having to decide who they should follow and who they should sympathize with to this aim,”
said producer Yosuke Hayashi in an interview with Automaton.

Player Choice and Factions
As a ronin, players will have the freedom to choose which factions to support, aligning themselves with either the shogunate loyalists or the imperial forces seeking change. Producer Fumihiko Yasuda explained in the same interview,
“The main character is a ronin who has no principles. Therefore, you can either side with the faction whose ideology resonates with you, or you can simply side with a faction because you have a favorite character.”
Rise of the Ronin launches March 22, 2024, as a PlayStation 5 exclusive. Pre-orders are now available for the Standard and Digital Deluxe editions.
