Red One, a Christmas-themed action-adventure film from Amazon MGM Studios, opened in over 4,000 domestic theaters, grossing $32 million domestically and $51 million internationally for a total of $83 million worldwide. Despite its underwhelming start, the film contributed significantly to Johnson’s career box office achievements.

The milestone puts Johnson’s box office total for lead or supporting roles above $10.3 billion globally, excluding several Fast and Furious titles. Including all films, his career at the box office is on the verge of reaching $14 billion, securing his position as the 15th-highest-grossing actor domestically, ahead of Eddie Murphy and Steve Carell.

Dwayne Johnson – Red One

While Red One was initially slated for a streaming release, positive test screenings prompted its theatrical debut. The film’s reception holds immense importance for Johnson, particularly after the mixed performance of recent titles like Black Adam ($390 million) and Jungle Cruise ($210 million).

Johnson’s past hits include Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle ($961 million), Moana ($686 million), San Andreas ($456 million), and Rampage ($427 million). With no updates on the sequels to Red Notice or progress in the Fast and Furious franchise, the pressure mounts for his upcoming projects.

The highly anticipated Moana 2, set for a Thanksgiving release, is expected to perform strongly, with projections of a $135 million opening weekend.

Red One is in theaters and we will have to look forward to Moana 2 to see if Johnson can continue his streak of box office successes.
