HBO’s Chairman and CEO, Casey Bloys, recently shared that The Last of Us Season 2 will likely be released in the first half of 2025. Speaking after the Emmy Awards, Bloys mentioned that both The Last of Us and The White Lotus are expected to air around the same time. While Bloys didn’t give an exact date, he did say the shows would be in the “Emmy window,” indicating a release before May 2025. This gives fans a clear idea of when to expect the continuation of Joel and Ellie’s journey.

In addition to the release window, fans got a sneak peek of Season 2 in an HBO sizzle reel. The clip included a glimpse of Joel (Pedro Pascal) in conversation with a character played by Catherine O’Hara. It also teased familiar characters from the game, such as Abby, played by Kathryn Dever, and Dina, portrayed by Isabela Merced. The footage suggests that the series will stay true to the controversial events of The Last of Us Part II.

In Season 2, Jeffrey Wright will reprise his role as Isaac, the ruthless leader of the Washington Liberation Front (WLF), a key figure in The Last of Us Part II. Like Merle Dandridge, who returned to play Marlene in Season 1, Wright will transition from the game to live-action. His character controls post-apocalyptic Seattle, where much of the upcoming season will be set.

Fans can also expect intense conflict between the WLF and the Seraphites, two rival factions from the game. Kathryn Dever will take on the role of Abby, a major figure in the sequel, while Isabela Merced joins the cast as Dina. Despite the excitement, the actors have faced challenges due to the backlash surrounding The Last of Us Part II’s plot, with Merced revealing extra security was required for Dever during filming.
