Key Points:
- Sofia Vergara expresses eagerness for a Modern Family revival.
- Ed O’Neill is open to reprising his role if the cast is on board.
- Jesse Tyler Ferguson fuels speculation with a hint on social media.
Modern Family, one of the most beloved sitcoms, concluded its 11-season run in 2020. Four years later, Sofia Vergara has expressed her enthusiasm for a potential revival or reunion special. Vergara, who played Gloria Delgado, shared her eagerness to return to the iconic role, highlighting the show’s lasting impact on both the cast and its audience.
Sofia Vergara’s Enthusiasm for a Revival
In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, Vergara made it clear that she would eagerly return as Gloria Delgado if given the chance. “I mean, I would do it in a second,” she said, emphasizing her readiness to revisit the character. Despite the short time since the series ended, Vergara is enthusiastic about the experience, noting, “just for the experience of doing it again,” although she remains unsure if it would be “good or bad.”
Vergara’s current optimism contrasts with her earlier stance this year when she appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. At that time, she was hesitant, stating, “No, it’s only been four years.” She felt that more time was needed before considering a revival. However, her recent comments indicate a shift in perspective, fueled by her love for the character and the show.
Other Cast Members Weigh In on the Revival
Ed O’Neill, who played Jay Pritchett, Gloria’s husband, also expressed openness to a possible Modern Family return. While he typically avoids revisiting past characters, O’Neill indicated that he would be willing to reprise his role if the rest of the cast was interested. “I am open to it,” he told TV Insider. “I like everybody involved, so I wouldn’t be the guy who [says no if everyone else wants to].”
Jesse Tyler Ferguson, known for his role as Mitchell Pritchett, recently fueled revival speculation with a cryptic Instagram post. He shared a photo of the Dunphy home, captioning it, “Haven’t seen this view in a while.” Although Ferguson did not provide further details, the post has sparked excitement among fans eager for a reunion.
With multiple cast members expressing interest in a potential revival, the possibility of a Modern Family reunion is becoming increasingly plausible. The show’s enduring popularity and the strong bond among its cast members make it a prime candidate for a return.
Modern Family is currently streaming on Hulu and Peacock.
