In a recent appearance on TVN’s You Quiz on the Block, Kim Soo Hyun opened up about his experience working on the new K-drama Queen of Tears and how his former co-star Jun Ji Hyun’s iconic role influenced his character portrayal.
Kim Soo Hyun Recalls Jun Ji Hyun’s Character in My Love From the Star
According to KDrama Stars, during the show, the hosts Yoo Jae Seok and Jo Sae Ho reminisced about Kim Soo Hyun’s breakout role in the 2013 hit drama My Love From the Star. According to an interview with the actor, he revealed how Jun Ji Hyun’s character Cheon Song Yi from the same drama reminded him of his current role in Queen of Tears.
“My character is somewhat similar to Jun Ji Hyun’s character Cheon Song Yi from ‘My Love from the Star.’ There were many times when I had to act the way Jun Ji Hyun did,” Kim Soo Hyun explained. “While I acted my character in ‘Queen of Tears,’ I couldn’t stop thinking about Jun Ji Hyun. I came to realize how amazing of an actress she was. I mean, of course, I knew that. But I meant that it really reminded me of that. She is a true professional.”

Kim Soo Hyun Praises Jun Ji Hyun’s Professionalism
The actor further praised Jun Ji Hyun’s professionalism and the recognition they both received for their performances in My Love From the Star. While Kim Soo Hyun won the Most Popular Actor in the TV Category at the 50th Baeksang Arts Awards, Jun Ji Hyun took home the coveted Daesang or Grand Prize for the same category.
Queen of Tears is a romantic comedy written by Park Ji Eun, the writer behind hit dramas like Crash Landing on You, The Producers, and My Love From the Star. The series has already made its mark, securing the 8th spot on Netflix’s Global Top 10 TV rankings as of March 13, according to Flix Patrol. It also recorded impressive nationwide ratings of 5.9 percent for its pilot episode in Korea.
