Matthew Perry’s social media posts in the days leading up to his passing included several Batman-themed references that sparked speculation and concern among fans. However, a close friend of the late Friends star has clarified that these posts were simply a reflection of Perry’s playful nature and love for Batman, not a cry for help.
What Were Matthew Perry’s Batman References About?
In the week before his untimely death, Matthew Perry shared multiple Instagram posts referring to himself as “Mattman.” These posts included Batman imagery and seemed whimsical, yet without context, they led to various conspiracy theories online. Some fans speculated that Perry’s posts were veiled messages indicating he was in distress.
Athenna Crosby, a close friend who visited Perry the day before his death, spoke with TMZ to dispel these rumors. She explained that Perry was a huge Batman fan and enjoyed incorporating the character into his life.
“Matthew was very sweet and a little bit nerdy,” Crosby said. “He loved Batman. He called his car the Batmobile because it was all tinted black and had matte paint on it, just like the Batmobile. He had been calling himself Mattman lately, which is a nickname that he dubbed for himself.”
Crosby emphasized that Perry’s Batman posts were just him being goofy and playful, not a subliminal cry for help. She highlighted Perry’s love for Batman, noting that it was a theme he mentioned in his memoir as well.

How Did Matthew Perry’s Friend Describe His Last Days?
Crosby further shared insights into Perry’s state of mind and health in the days leading up to his death. She noted that he was in a good mood, excited about the future, and taking care of his health.
“The reason why I’m here… is to attest to his character the day before he passed, because there are people that speculate that it wasn’t what it seemed to be,” Crosby continued. “I was one of the last people to see him alive. He was in an extremely good mood. He was excited about the future. He was taking care of his health. And the fact that he died was a freak accident, but there’s nothing fishy about it.”
