What is the story behind The Mononoke Lecture Logs of Chuzenji-sensei?
The Mononoke Lecture Logs of Chuzenji-sensei is based on a manga by Aki Shimizu, which itself is inspired by Natsuhiko Kyogoku’s Rozen Kreuz novel series. The manga began its run in Kodansha’s Shonen Magazine Edge in October 2019 before moving to the Comic Days app in October 2023.
Set in Tokyo in 1948, just after World War II, the story follows Kanna Kusakabe, a second-year high school student. Kanna’s life takes an intriguing turn when she meets her new language teacher, Akihiko Chuzenji. As mysterious supernatural events begin to occur around Kanna, she finds herself regularly seeking help from the grumpy Chuzenji-sensei in the library prep room.
The anime promises to explore the unlikely partnership between this teacher and student as they tackle various supernatural mysteries. It’s a unique blend of school life, historical setting, and paranormal investigation that sets it apart from typical mystery anime.
