After 11 years of marriage, Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied have finalized their divorce, PEOPLE can exclusively confirm. The Oscar-winning actress, 42, filed for divorce last July, and the proceedings were completed last month in France, where the former couple resides with their children.
Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied’s Marriage Officially Ends
As per People, according to a friend of the couple, the separation has been challenging for Portman, following reports of Millepied’s extramarital affair in May 2023.
“It was initially really tough for her, but her friends rallied around her and helped get her through the worst of it,” the insider revealed.
“Natalie is coming out of a really tough and painful year but she’s come out the other side of it stronger and is finding joy in her family, friends and work.”
Throughout their split, Portman and Millepied, 46, have remained united in their commitment to their children, son Aleph, 12, and daughter Amalia, 7.
“Her biggest priority has been ensuring a smooth transition for her children,” the source said. “She and Ben really love their kids and are equally focused on being the best co-parents they can be. Nothing is more important.”

Working Towards a “New Normal”
While Portman stopped wearing her wedding ring after news of Millepied’s affair surfaced, the couple took their time to work through their issues privately. As a source told PEOPLE in June 2023, Millepied was “doing all he can to get Natalie to forgive him and keep their family together,” while Portman’s “biggest priority is protecting her children and their privacy.”
Amid the divorce proceedings, both Portman and Millepied have juggled demanding work commitments. Millepied is the choreographer for Dune: Part Two, while Portman promoted her critically acclaimed performance in May December and is currently shooting the film Fountain of Youth.

Although their marriage has ended, Portman and Millepied’s paths first crossed on the set of Black Swan in 2010, where Millepied served as the choreographer, helping Portman learn intricate ballet sequences. In a 2018 interview, Portman fondly recalled their collaborative experience, describing it as “definitely exciting and fun” and “beautiful.”
As the former couple embarks on their “new normal” as a family, they remain focused on co-parenting their children and continuing their respective careers.
