Christopher Nolan’s critically acclaimed film Oppenheimer has emerged as the frontrunner at the upcoming Academy Awards, garnering a staggering 13 nominations, just one shy of the all-time record. Pundits and betting odds predict the movie will walk away with at least eight Oscars, cementing its place among the biggest winners of this century and in the history of the prestigious awards ceremony.

As per Forbes, according to final Oscar predictions from esteemed publications like The Los Angeles Times and Variety, as well as betting odds on platforms like DraftKings and GoldDerby, Oppenheimer is slated to win eight of its 13 nominations. After sweeping major awards at the Golden Globes, BAFTAs, and numerous other ceremonies, the film is widely expected to take home the coveted Best Picture trophy.

In addition to Best Picture, Christopher Nolan is heavily favored to claim his first-ever Academy Award for Best Director, following a string of victories at various award shows this season. Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. are tipped to win Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, respectively, after being honored by the Screen Actors Guild for their performances.

Oppenheimer is also considered a shoo-in for several technical categories, with pundits and odds predicting wins in Best Score, Best Sound, Best Editing, and Best Cinematography.

Should Oppenheimer secure eight or more Oscars, it would join an exclusive club of only 15 films in history to achieve such a feat. Remarkably, only two films from this century, Slumdog Millionaire (2008) and Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022), have managed to win eight or more Academy Awards.

While Oppenheimer is widely favored in numerous categories, a few surprises could be in store. The betting odds for Best Adapted Screenplay are tight, with American Fiction narrowly edging out Oppenheimer as the favorite. Additionally, some observers have suggested that Paul Giamatti could pull off an upset over Murphy for Best Actor for his performance in The Holdovers.
