Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster biopic Oppenheimer emerged as the undisputed winner at this year’s Oscars, triumphantly taking home seven awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Cillian Murphy, and Best Director for Christopher Nolan himself.
Oppenheimer Dominates with Multiple Accolades
According to The Guardian, in addition to the top honors, the film also won Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr., Best Editing, Best Cinematography, and Best Original Score. According to reports, Oppenheimer’s success marked a victory over Greta Gerwig’s Barbie in the highly anticipated “Barbenheimer” showdown, with Barbie only winning Best Original Song for Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?”.
Murphy, in his acceptance speech, expressed his gratitude, saying, “I’m a little overwhelmed,” and dedicating his award “to the peacemakers everywhere.” Downey Jr., known for his iconic role as Iron Man, quipped, “I’d like to thank my terrible childhood and the Academy in that order,” before adding, “I needed this job more than it needed me.”

Christopher Nolan’s Triumph and Other Notable Winners
Nolan, who was previously nominated for Dunkirk, finally secured his first Best Director Oscar. In his speech, he reflected on the power of cinema, stating,
“We don’t know where this incredible journey is going from here, but to know that you think I’m a meaningful part of it means the world to me.”

Other notable winners included Emma Stone for Best Actress for Poor Things, Jonathan Glazer’s The Zone of Interest for Best International Feature, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph for Best Supporting Actress in The Holdovers.
