Pedro Pascal’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer Role Saved His Career When He Had $7 Left
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Pedro Pascal opened up about his early struggles as an actor and how a residual check from his brief role on Buffy the Vampire Slayer quite literally rescued his career. The acclaimed actor, now a household name, revealed he was down to his last $7 when that Buffy residual arrived and allowed him to keep pursuing his dreams in Hollywood.
Pascal’s entry into acting was an uphill battle that lasted around 15 years according to his comments to Entertainment Tonight. During that time, he couldn’t afford basics like medical care and had less than $7 in his bank account. That’s when the residual check from his one-episode Buffy role as Eddie showed up unexpectedly.
“[It] saved the day and literally is the reason I was able to stay in [Hollywood] and not give up,” Pascal said.
His character Eddie was a college student who struck up a bond with Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Buffy, only to then get turned into a vampire and killed off in dramatic fashion.
Pedro Pascal’s Rise to Stardom After Buffy
While that small Buffy role was a career lifeline, it would still be years before Pascal’s major breakout. He logged supporting parts in films like Kingsman: The Golden Circle and Game of Thrones before his star-making turn as Din Djarin on the massively popular Disney+ series The Mandalorian.
His phenomenal performances as Joel in HBO’s The Last of Us adaptation and the title role in the upcoming Marvel movie Fantastic Four as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic has only further cemented Pascal as one of Hollywood’s biggest talents.

Pascal is set to reprise his beloved bounty hunter role alongside Grogu in the upcoming film The Mandalorian & Grogu, eyed for a 2026 release date. Despite Pascal being extremely busy with multiple high-profile projects, his Mandalorian co-star Brendan Wayne insists “they will work around his schedule.”
