Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe can breathe a sigh of relief as Simu Liu has once again assured that a sequel to his 2021 hit, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, is in the works, with director Destin Daniel Cretton set to return.
Simu Liu Reaffirms Shang-Chi Sequel, Cretton’s Involvement
According to GameSpot, During an appearance on The Tonight Show, host Jimmy Fallon inquired about the status of Shang-Chi 2, to which Liu jokingly responded,
“You want me to lose my job, is that it?” before confirming the sequel’s development. “Well look, I will say this: It’s definitely happening,” Liu stated, as per the interview.
The actor further revealed that Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed and co-wrote the original Shang-Chi movie, will reprise his role for the sequel. “Destin Daniel Cretton will come back as well to helm the movie,” Liu added.

Shang-Chi’s Success and Sequel’s Timeline Uncertain
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, released in 2021, was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $400 million at the worldwide box office. The film introduced Liu as the titular character and expanded the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s exploration of Asian representation and mythology.
