The scene revealed that The Captain, a recurring character, practices the tradition of placing a pineapple on his porch as a “symbol of hospitality.” This revelation leads Ted to remember drunkenly stealing an identical pineapple from The Captain’s house, finally explaining the peculiar item’s presence in his apartment.
