After blacking out from consuming a potent drink at the bar, Ted wakes up the next morning with a pineapple on his nightstand, a sprained ankle, and a mysterious woman in his bed – with no recollection of the events that transpired.

As the episode unfolds, Ted and his friends piece together the night’s events, but the origin of the pineapple remains a puzzling mystery. This unanswered question was intentional, The line ‘we never found out where the pineapple came from’ was something they never should have said.

Despite the creators’ initial intention to leave the pineapple’s origins a mystery, fans were eventually treated to a resolution. In a deleted scene from the season 9 episode “Daisy,” released online by BuzzFeed, the mystery was finally solved.

The scene revealed that The Captain, a recurring character, practices the tradition of placing a pineapple on his porch as a “symbol of hospitality.” This revelation leads Ted to remember drunkenly stealing an identical pineapple from The Captain’s house, finally explaining the peculiar item’s presence in his apartment.
