Key Points:
- Jim Parsons confided in co-star Simon Helberg about wanting to leave The Big Bang Theory after season 12
- This was surprising as Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki said they were blindsided by Parsons’ departure announcement
- With Young Sheldon potentially ending, there are hopes for a Big Bang Theory cast reunion before the franchise concludes
Simon Helberg Was Aware of Jim Parsons’ Plans to Exit The Big Bang Theory
Although Jim Parsons’ decision to depart The Big Bang Theory after season 12 came as a shock to most of his co-stars, one actor was fully aware of his intentions – Simon Helberg, who portrayed Howard Wolowitz. In a surprising revelation, Helberg admitted he and Parsons had discussed the matter well before the official announcement.

Why Jim Parsons Confided in Simon Helberg About Leaving
In The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story, Helberg stated:
“I was aware that Jim felt ready to move on from the show, and we did talk about it. I felt the same. We felt like season twelve was the end of the run.”
Parsons choosing to loop in Helberg seems like an odd decision at first glance. As their respective characters Sheldon and Howard didn’t share a particularly close bond, one might expect Parsons to have those conversations with the main trio members he was tightest with – Kaley Cuoco (Penny) and Johnny Galecki (Leonard).

However, Helberg’s comments indicate Parsons found a like-minded perspective in the Howard actor being equally ready to move on from the enormously popular sitcom after over a decade on the air.
The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon are available to stream in full on Max.
