We all were curious about whether Transformers One is a proper prequel to the live-action Transformers movies, which have been releasing since 2007. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura shed light on this topic, explaining that while the animated film isn’t a direct prequel to the live-action films, it still influences them. “I think it’d be really hard and complicated to have a direct link,” he stated, indicating that the movie operates on a separate timeline. However, Bonaventura confirmed that the events of Transformers One would impact future live-action films. Although not tied directly to characters or specific events, the prequel helps shape future storylines and ideas.

The producer also discussed how the two universes can benefit from each other. Having both animated and live-action movies allows the franchise to explore different storytelling avenues, which can later be used to enhance both universes. Bonaventura sees this separation as a creative advantage, allowing filmmakers to experiment and bring fresh ideas into each version of the franchise.

One significant change in Transformers One is Megatron’s backstory. Unlike his original portrayal as a gladiator, in this film, he starts as a miner, putting him on more equal footing with Orion Pax. This adjustment helps emphasize their strong bond before they eventually become enemies.

Transformers One is set to hit theaters on September 20.
