The writers of Netflix’s Wednesday series have responded to Jenna Ortega’s earlier comments about the show’s script. Ortega’s remarks about her dissatisfaction with certain aspects of the script stirred up some controversy, but now the writers are setting the record straight. In a recent interview, they addressed the issue, explaining that while it wasn’t the easiest situation, there’s no lingering tension, and they continue to work closely with Ortega.
What Did Jenna Ortega Say About the Wednesday Script?
Jenna Ortega’s comments about the script of Wednesday first emerged during an appearance on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast. She expressed that she had become “very, very protective” of her character, Wednesday Addams, and even admitted to changing lines on her own. She confessed that her behavior may have come across as “almost unprofessional” due to how strongly she felt about the character.
Following her remarks, some controversy arose, leading to widespread discussion about whether her comments reflected a deeper issue with the show’s writing. However, Ortega later admitted that she could have phrased her concerns more carefully. “I probably could have used my words better,” she shared, reflecting on how her comments may have been misinterpreted.

How Did the Writers of Wednesday Respond?
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the show’s writers, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, addressed Ortega’s criticism directly. While Gough acknowledged that it wasn’t “pleasant” to hear Ortega’s remarks, he emphasized that these kinds of situations are common when working with young actors. He suggested that missteps happen, especially when actors are thrust into the spotlight at an early stage in their careers. Despite the initial surprise, he added that there’s no ongoing issue between them and Ortega.
